Three PSD junior high students were recently selected to participate in the prestigious Tech Trek STEM Camp sponsored by the American Association of University Women (AAUW).

Meet the Students

Violet White (Kalles), Ysa Javier (Glacier View) and Jewlyana Sturdivant (Glacier View) will attend the week-long STEM camp held at Pacific Lutheran University in July. During the camp, they will live on campus and use the university’s classrooms and labs.

What is Tech Trek?

The annual Tech Trek STEM Camp provides girls in our region the opportunity to experience college life and to participate in academic experiences in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

The program not only emphasizes academic pursuits in STEM but also focuses on building leadership skills and boosting confidence among young women.

Students selected to attend Tech Trek choose their core classes and two labs daily. They will participate in a field trip and have a career night to meet and learn about women working professionally in STEM fields. There is also a financial literacy component that runs throughout the week, teaching the girls how to budget and manage money.

Congratulations, Violet, Ysa and Jewlyana!
