Students Earn Varsity Letter for Volunteer Service

This past Monday, we continued our tradition of celebrating students by recognizing those who have earned a varsity letter in volunteer service this school year.

Community Service Lettering History

This year marked the 8th year of students being able to letter in community service.  And what began in the 2016-17 school year, has now turned into tradition here in Puyallup. Students can earn a varsity letter by completing at least 150 hours of volunteer service within a given school year. Students document their community service by logging their hours and activities in addition to submitting a summary of reflection on their service.

How Can Students Earn Their Varsity Letter?

Students can volunteer in a variety of activities. Whether this is volunteering at a local food bank, in youth sports, through faith based or charitable organizations, or Communities in Schools March Gladness projects - the goal is to create a culture of service in Puyallup. 

This year, 66 students in grades 7-12 districtwide completed at least 150 hours of volunteer service. That is the equivalent to almost a full month of full-time service at 8 hours per day, 5 days a week.
