Request for 4th and 5th Grade Social Studies Curriculum Materials

The Puyallup School District Teaching and Learning Department is seeking information on Elementary Social Studies Curriculum Materials for Grades 4-5. The purpose of this Request for Information (RFI) is to obtain pricing quotations and product information for potential instructional materials for district use.

Course Overview

Grade 4 Social Studies

Students explore Washington State’s history, geography, and government, learning how people, events, and tribal nations, especially the Puyallup Tribe, continue to shape our state and local communities.

Grade 5 Social Studies

Students study United States history and government, examining the experiences of Indigenous peoples across the nation, with a continued focus on the local Puyallup Tribe and the founding ideals of democracy to understand how the past influences life today.

Vendor Response Requirements

Interested vendors must submit a white paper (maximum 30 pages) that includes the following sections:

Section 1 - Administrative Information

Include:

  • Company name
  • Business address
  • Primary point of contact
  • Email address and phone number
  • Business license number
  • EIN
  • Business type

Section 2 - References

  • Provide at least three references from school districts that have used the materials for a minimum of one year.

Section 3 - Curriculum Quality Overview

  • Summarize why the instructional materials are high quality and aligned to elementary social studies instruction.

Section 4 - Instructional Design Questions

Vendors must respond to the following:

  1. How do your curriculum materials support inquiry-based learning?
  2. How do your materials meet the needs of all learners, including students reading below grade level, multilingual learners, students with learning differences, and students exceeding grade-level expectations?
  3. How do your materials incorporate multiple historical perspectives?
  4. How do your materials highlight the stories of marginalized people?

Section 5 - Itemized Pricing Quote (Valid for 120 Days)

Provide pricing for:

  • Number of teacher edition hard copies
  • Teacher online access (7-year access)
  • Number of student textbooks
  • Student online access (7-year access)
  • Professional development hours to be used over three school years

If any listed items are not available, clearly note this in the quote.

Written Response Submission Details and Deadlines

Vendors are encouraged to submit sample instructional materials to demonstrate product quality.

All submitted materials become the exclusive property of the District. The District reserves the right to dispose of sample materials after the review process. Please include a list of materials available in languages other than English.

Security and Technology Requirements

To be considered for future contracting opportunities, vendors must meet the following requirements:

  • Security and Confidentiality: Vendors must protect the privacy and confidentiality of all District employee and student information in accordance with the District’s Data Sharing Agreement.
  • Technology Integration: Vendors must complete a Technology Integration Form outlining all infrastructure, technical specifications, and system requirements necessary for successful implementation.
