PSD Celebrates Black History Month

a Black History Month graphic

Black history isn't a separate history. This is all of our history, this is American history. - Karyn Parsons, Actress and Author

Black History Month is an annual celebration that acknowledges and honors the significant contributions of Black Americans to the political, social, cultural, and economic development of the United States.

It is a time to reflect on Black Americans' achievements and struggles throughout history and recognize their extraordinary efforts in shaping the country.

Background

The idea of Black History Month was initiated by Carter G. Woodson, a noted historian, and other prominent Black Americans in 1926.

Black History Month became official in 1976. Since then, every February has been designated February to recognize and honor African American achievements.
