Puget Sound Community Band Awards Rogers HS Teacher
Congratulations to Rogers High School Music Teacher Stephen Pickard on being selected for the Tacoma Concert Band’s prestigious Robert Musser Conducting Fellowship Program.
The award is granted annually to an emerging band director who exhibits the skills and potential to become a strong musical leader in our community.
As part of the program, Pickard will receive one year of personalized mentorship and coaching from the Tacoma Concert Band Conductor Gerard Morris. Additionally, he will have the opportunity to rehearse and conduct one music selection at each of the band’s four concerts throughout the year and receive a $1,500 stipend to be used for further professional development.
Upon learning he was selected for the fellowship, Pickard said he was very excited for the opportunity and the positive impact it will have on his teaching. “There’s a quote that says, ‘those who teach must never cease to learn’ and that’s something I try to guide my teaching principles by,” said Pickard. “If I want my students to grow, I too have to continue to evolve and grow.”
Congratulations, Mr. Pickard!
