Puyallup School District is pleased to announce that Dr. Mark Knight has accepted an offer to serve as the district's next Assistant Superintendent of Achievement and Instruction, pending approval by the Puyallup School Board at its August 3 meeting.

Dr. Knight brings more than two decades of educational leadership experience to the role, with a career spanning school and district leadership positions. He has served as Assistant Principal at Puyallup High School, Director of Instructional Leadership, Executive Director of College & Career Readiness, Executive Director of Digital Educational Platforms, and most recently as Principal of Edgemont Junior High. His broad experience provides a strong foundation in instructional leadership, operational excellence, organizational management, and systems improvement.

Dr. Knight earned a Doctor of Education in Leadership for Learning from the University of Washington, where his dissertation focused on student voice and lesson design to increase student engagement. He also holds a Master of Education from Western Washington University, a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Washington, and Washington Superintendent, Continuing Administrator, and Principal certifications.

"I have great confidence in Dr. Knight's professional preparation, leadership, and commitment to students," Superintendent Kevin Alfano said. "I am confident he will be an outstanding addition to our leadership team and will play a key role in advancing our work while continuing to build strong relationships with district administrators, school leaders, staff, students, families, and the broader community."

"I am honored to have the opportunity to continue serving the students, staff, and families of the Puyallup School District in this new role," Dr. Knight said. "Throughout my career, I've been passionate about supporting excellent teaching and learning, building strong relationships, and helping every student succeed. I look forward to partnering with our schools and community as we continue to advance opportunities for all students."

As Assistant Superintendent of Achievement and Instruction, Dr. Knight will provide leadership for the district's instructional programs, curriculum, assessment, and student achievement initiatives, supporting the district's commitment to ensuring every student is prepared for success.

Pending board approval by the Board of Directors on August 3, Edgemont Junior High Assistant Principal Kris Susee will be appointed as the school's next principal. "Ms. Susee has been an integral part of the Edgemont leadership team, and I am confident she will build on the strong work taking place at the school while continuing its positive momentum." Superintendent Kevin Alfano said.

Dr. Knight will join Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Employee Relations Amie Brandmire and Assistant Superintendent for Operations and School Support Richard Lasso as members of the district's executive leadership team.
