Local Radio Station Recognizes Brouillet Elementary Teacher
Brouillet Elementary 3rd Grade Teacher Candace Mikkelsen got a big surprise from two local radio celebrities.
Seattle-Area Morning Show Hosts Curt and Jen from Star 101.5 visited Mikkelson's class to award her the station's Elementary Teacher of the Week Award!
According to Star 101.5's website, the award recognizes elementary teachers in the Greater Seattle Area based on nominations from those who would like to praise an educator.
Mikkelsen's mother, Christie Helman, who also volunteers in her classroom, nominated her daughter for the recognition, said the following:
My daughter Candace gives her all to her students. Candace goes above with helping those in need before and or after school. She helps each one grow in their own way.
When she isn't helping them in school, she goes to the functions on her own time. She loves to be asked to go to events. Parents ask to have their children in her class as she helps them grow so much. I help out in her room every Wednesday, as a mom, watching her teach, help and care for these students makes me so proud. If there ever was someone who needs to be a teacher, it is her. On top of helping her students, she is a mentor to new teachers so they can become a great teacher for the kids of our state.
Candace has students from her past classes that return just to see her and let her know how she made a difference in their education. There is so much more I can say. She deserves to be shown how much we love her.
The radio station awarded Mikkelson a personalized plaque and check for $101.50, along with goody bags for her students.
Along with Curt and Jen, Brouillet Elementary Principal Beth Simpson and Mikkelsen's family members, including her mother, were present for the occasion.
