District Athletic Director Earns State Recognition
Join us in congratulating PSD Director of Athletics, Health, and Fitness Jim Meyerhoff for being awarded the 2024 National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) State Award for Outstanding Service.
According to NFHS, the State Award for Outstanding Service is presented to individuals to recognize a record of long-standing service and significant contribution to the NFHS within a specific sport or activity, or to individuals/organizations for services.
Meyerhoff began his service with PSD nearly 25 years ago as a teacher and coach at Emerald Ridge High School from 2000-2015. He was then promoted to Puyallup High School's Athletic Director and has held his current role as the district's athletic director since 2018.
Meyerhoff says he was surprised when he found out he won the award but noted that it represents the work everyone does for PSD Athletics.
"This award is special to me because the staff at the WIAA office made the selection based on the work we have done in the district to support student-athletes," Meyerhoff said. "We run multiple events each year and during post-season that provide opportunities for students-athletes with the goal of providing positive experiences for participants and spectators."
Along with this most recent accolade, Meyerhoff has racked up several other awards throughout his career, including:
- Washington Secondary Schools Athletic Administrator Association Athletic Administrator Service Award, 2022
- South Puget Sound League 4A AD of the Year, 2020-2021
- Washington State Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame, 2018 Inductee
- PSD CTE Educator of the Year, 2012-2013
Please join us in congratulating and thanking Jim for all he does for our student-athletes and community!
