Carson Elementary Student Inducted to Statewide School Safety Hall of Fame

When it comes to leadership, Carson Elementary 6th grade student Mirabel Hatten sets the standard.

Recently named to the 2025 AAA Washington School Safety Patrol Hall of Fame, Hatten was one of just ten students across the state recognized for outstanding commitment to traffic safety, service, and mentorship.

Each year, AAA Washington partners with agencies including the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), the Evergreen Safety Council, and the Washington Traffic Safety Commission to honor ten exemplary patrollers across Washington state. Students are nominated by their advisors and submit responses to a series of essay questions about leadership, responsibility, and service.

“She is someone I can count on every single day,” said Carson Elementary Paraeducator and Patrol Advisor Barbara Nequette. “She communicates clearly, stays calm in tough situations, and always looks out for others.”

For nearly three years, Hatten has shown up each day to help classmates safely navigate the school’s busy arrival and dismissal times. Whether it’s managing the school’s most high-traffic post or helping train younger patrollers, Hatten is known for her ability to stay steady under pressure and lead by example, and now joins a legacy of student leaders who help make their schools safer.

In addition to her work on patrol, Hatten serves on student council and volunteers as a recess monitor. With the ability to juggle multiple roles while still making time to mentor others, it left a lasting impression on Hatten's teachers and the Hall of Fame selection committee.

Congratulations to Hatten for her outstanding service and for representing Emma Carson Elementary and the Puyallup School District with pride.
