April 17 Update: Ferrucci Junior High Closure Update

The entrance to Ferrucci Junior High School with the text 'Ferrucci Junior High Updates' overlaid.

Following the April 4th electrical fire at Ferrucci Junior High, we are sharing an important update regarding in-person learning.

Ferrucci Junior High School will remain closed for the remainder of the school year. To support students and continue learning with minimal disruption, the following plans are in place:

Grade Level April 20 - May 1 May 4 - June 18
9th Grade In-person learning
at the ERHS/GVJH campus
Continue with in-person
learning at ERHS/GVJH campus
7th and 8th Grade Remote instruction Transition to
in-person learning
at Old Naches Trail Elementary

These decisions are guided by three priorities:

  • Safety: Ensuring students and staff are in safe, secure learning environments
  • Continuity: Minimizing disruption to instruction, relationships, and daily routines

  • In-Person Learning: Returning students to consistent, in-person instruction as quickly as possible.

What to Expect Next

We recognize this transition brings changes for students and families, and we know there will be questions about daily schedules, transportation, and what to expect at each location. The district is committed to providing transportation to both sites for any student who needs transportation support. Our teams are actively finalizing these details and are committed to sharing weekly updates with 7th and 8th grade families in preparation for the May 4 transition.  All current and archived information is also available on the FJH website for easy reference

About Old Naches Trail Elementary

Old Naches Trail Elementary, located at 15305 Waller Road East in Tacoma, is a district facility within the Bethel School District. This building is not currently being used as an elementary school but has been used in the past year to support students and staff during school construction projects, as well as for district and community purposes. The space will be prepared over the coming weeks to support FJH 7th and 8th grade students. For additional background from Bethel School District, you can read their full update here

Thank you for your continued patience and partnership as we work to support all FJH students during this unprecedented time. We are grateful to the Bethel School District for their collaboration and support in making this transition possible.
