2025-26 American Sign Language-Dual Language Program Registration Now Open!

On Monday, February 3, 2025, the Puyallup School District will open student enrollment for its American Sign Language (ASL) - Dual Language Program for incoming kindergarten and first grade students for the 2025-26 school year.

Families are encouraged to apply for this exceptional opportunity to enrich their child’s education and communication skills.

The program will be hosted at Zeiger Elementary.

Program Overview

The Puyallup School District's ASL-Dual Language Program delivers a comprehensive educational experience that is dedicated to fostering the acquisition, maintenance, and study of American Sign Language. This program is designed for all deaf and hard-of-hearing students, as well as individuals who express an interest in learning ASL.

This dual language program fosters fluency in ASL, deepens understanding of Deaf culture, and builds a strong, inclusive community of ASL signers.

Who Can Apply?

The program is for students incoming kindergarten and first grade students for the 2025-26 school year who are:

  • Deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Deaf family members.
  • Interested in learning ASL.
  • Part of or involved in the Deaf community.

Kindergarten applicants of all ASL experience levels are welcome and encouraged to apply.

First grade applicants are required to have some ASL experience and will take an ASL skill analysis to determine readiness for the program.

Applications will be accepted for in-district and out-of-district students, with priority given to Deaf and hard-of-hearing students, their siblings, and students with Deaf family members.

Seeking More Information?

On Wednesday, February 19, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. we will host an ASL-Dual Language Information Session at Zeiger Elementary (13008 94th Ave E, Puyallup, WA 98373).

Along with registration support, attendees can learn more about the program, including its mission and model, classroom environment, curriculum, and benefits.

ASL interpreters will be provided at the event to assist with communication.
