Secretary of State Legacy Washington: “We’re Still Here: The Resilience of Washington Tribes”

A wall exhibit of the Secretary of State Legacy Washington: “We’re Still Here: The Resilience of Washington Tribes

When the American West opened in the 19th century, the movement of trappers, traders and settlers threatened ancient customs. The Indigenous peoples of Washington have struggled from treaty times to today to protect who they are, what they believe and how they live.

Follow Washington’s original inhabitants through a war over land, a clash over culture and a revival of Native tradition in our world today. This exhibit was created by Legacy Washington under the Secretary of State’s office (through January).
