Students are considered for the PAGE Program through a multi-step process that includes academic screening, assessment, and review by the Placement Committee.
The PAGE identification process takes place during the school year for placement in the following school year.
Universal Screening for Current Grade 6 Students
As part of the district's commitment to identifying highly capable learners from all backgrounds, all current grade 6 students participate in universal screening using district assessment data. Students demonstrating advanced academic performance may be considered for further evaluation as part of the PAGE identification process.
Current Grade 6 Students
Students currently enrolled in grade 6 may be considered for PAGE services beginning in grade 7.
Step 1: Submit an Application
A parent or guardian completes the Highly Capable Program Application during the application window.
Step 2: Academic Screening
Student achievement data is reviewed to determine eligibility for further assessment. Students demonstrating strong academic performance may be invited to continue in the identification process.
Step 3: Cognitive Assessment (CogAT)
Students identified through the screening process are invited to take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) at the Kessler Center.
Parents/guardians are responsible for transportation to and from testing.
Step 4: Placement Committee Review
The Placement Committee reviews multiple sources of data, including achievement scores, cognitive assessment results, teacher rating scales, and state and district assessments.
Step 5: Family Notification
Families are notified of assessment results and placement decisions.
Step 6: Program Placement
Students who qualify for PAGE services begin receiving services in grade 7. Placement may be recommended in one or more of the following subject areas:
- English Language Arts
- Social Studies
- Mathematics
- Science

Please Note: Students identified through the annual PAGE process begin receiving services the following school year. Students who are new to Puyallup School District may be considered for placement outside of the regular identification cycle.
