High School & Beyond Plan

Beginning in 8th grade, students will update their High School and Beyond Plan to include:

• Career Interests and Educational Goals
• 4-Year High School Course Plan
• Assessment Results and Interventions
• An Activity Log/Resume 
• 20-hour community-based learning or service experience (Students may start collecting hours starting in the 7th grade)
• Senior interview where they respond to four questions:
  • What high school skills and community experiences helped prepare you to be future ready?
  • What is your immediate post-high plan? (college/work/military/other)
  • How does this align with your long-term career goals?
  • To put your plan in motion, what might be your next steps?

Seniors will conduct a Senior Conference in the spring of their senior year, sharing their plan, a professional resume, and discussion of a 20-hour community experience.

How Will Students Create Their High School and Beyond Plan?

Puyallup School District Students will use SchooLinks to develop and update their digital High School & Beyond Plan, document their required Community Service Hours, and prepare answers for their Senior Interviews.  SchooLinks will also be accessible to guardians.

All High School and Beyond Plan documentation and supports will be located in SchooLinks.

Students can access SchoolLinks through Schoology. Individual assistance and information is available through the High School College & Career Center or High School & Beyond Plan Coordinator. 

 In order to complete a Pathway to Graduation, students will complete one of the following:

• Meet or exceed the graduation standard established by the State Board of Education on the statewide high school assessments in ELA and mathematics;
   
• complete and qualify for college credit in dual credit courses in ELA and mathematics;
   
• earn high school credit in a high school transition course that meets specific requirements in ELA and mathematics;
   
• earn high school credit, with a C+ grade, or receiving a 3 or higher on the AP exam, or equivalent, in specified AP, IB, or Cambridge international courses in ELA and mathematics, or earning a 4 or higher on IB exams;
   
• meet or exceed the scores established by the SBE for the mathematics portion and the reading, English, or writing portion of the SAT or ACT;
   
• meet any combination of at least one ELA option and at least one mathematics option established in the previous bullets;
   
• meet standards in the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery; or
   
• complete a sequence of career and technical education courses, including those leading to workforce entry, state or nationally approved apprenticeships, or postsecondary education, that meet specific criteria.

The Washington State history and government requirement may be met in grades 7 through 12. 

If the course is taken in 7th or 8th grade, it fulfills the requirement, but high school credit will be awarded only if the academic level of the course exceeds the requirements for 8th grade. Students who meet the requirement but do not earn credit must still take the required number of social studies credits in high school.
