Student Devices

Seventh through twelfth graders will check out a Windows 10 computer to use for school.

Incoming 7^th and 10^th grade students will receive a Lenovo 500w computer with an 11.6 in touch screen display.

It has both front-facing and world-facing cameras, a stylus for digital inking, and a built-in microphone.

While you should save all your documents to your district provided OneDrive, the Lenovo has a 256GB hard drive and 8GB total memory.

It is Bluetooth enabled, too.

You will use the same computer each year for 7 - 9th grades and then get a new computer for 10 - 12th grades. 

While there are some built-in protections on the student computers, students are still responsible for their behavior. The Student Rights and Responsibilities document describes acceptable use of Technology:

'The district believes that the valuable information and interaction available on the Internet outweighs the possibility of harm from users procuring material that is not consistent with the educational goals of the Puyallup School District. With access to computers and people all over the world comes the availability of material that may not be considered to be of educational value in the school. 
 
Please be aware that questionable materials that are not appropriate for this age may be available to inquisitive students even though the district has a filtering program and teacher supervision. 
 
Personal laptops, e-readers, tablets, cell phones and other technological devices have a place in the educational setting. Misuse would constitute a disruption of the educational process. The following guidelines apply to these technology devices: 

• The student/parent assumes all risks/liability in the event of loss, theft or damage.
• Teacher permission must be granted before using in class.
• Devices are to be stored out of sight and silenced when not in approved use or they may be confiscated. 

Students are not to use technology devices including, but not limited to, cameras, cell phones, portable entertainment systems or other devices in a manner that disrupts the educational process, invades the privacy or rights or others, or violates district policy or school rules.  Use of technology devices to take photos or video will not be permitted in bathrooms or locker rooms. Elementary Only-Cell phone use is not permitted during recess or lunch without administrative permission. 
 
Possession or distribution of passwords other than the student’s own is prohibited. Distribution of knowledge (such as passwords or techniques) that may assist another person in damaging the network or 20 inappropriately accessing material is also prohibited. 
 
Students who violate this technology section subject to discipline up to and including restitution and/or suspension or expulsion. Personal devices used inappropriately or without permission may be confiscated. Gaining access to a computer system or electronic database of another person is considered computer trespass (RCW 9A.52.110 and RCW 9A.52.120). Law enforcement officials may be contacted and the student may be charged with a felony. 

Taking some basic precautions will keep your computer happy and functional at all times. If it does break, you can check out a loaner device (a "hot swap") to use while your computer is being repaired. See the tips below for suggestions to keep your computer in great shape.

Every student in the Puyallup School District automatically has a Schoology account. Your log in is the same username and password you use for all district platforms, but it works on a log in page specifically for our teachers and students:

Almost all computer problems can be solved by restarting. If Word is not working, try quitting and re-launching the application. If that does not fix it, try restarting the computer. If things still are not working correctly, here are the steps to take:

1. Ask a classmate, teacher or Tech Squad member to help.
2. Visit the Technology Library Paraeducator (TLP) in your school's library or call HelpDesk  253-841-8600.

If you computer needs a technician to repair it, the TLP can check out a Hot Swap computer for you to use while your device is being fixed.
