Connecting to your Wi-Fi at home

After you log-in to your device, click on the Wi-Fi icon on the taskbar.
Select your home Wi-Fi network, check the box that says "Connect Automatically" and click Connect.
Enter the password to your home Wi-Fi. If you don't know it, look on your Wi-Fi router. The password is often on the bottom or side of the router. If you still have questions, you may need to call your internet provider.

Installing a home printer

(If you cannot automatically connect.)

Find the manufacturer and model number off your printer.
Go to the manufacturer's website and find the support page.
Enter the model number of your printer and search for the "driver".
Once the model is found, download the latest Windows 10 drivers and run the setup. The installer should prompt you when to plug in your printer or find it wirelessly on the network.

Devices at Athletics & Activities

Schools will provide secure storage for participants' backpacks or computers during events. Each junior high school will have either a locking cabinet or a dedicated office/classroom for visiting athletes to secure their backpacks during events.

At the high school level, busses assigned to transport students to away events will have a locking cargo box where athletes may story their possessions.

Coaches will work with our students to provide them safe storage for their devices.

Microsoft Office 365 Download

Puyallup School District students receive up to 5 licenses of Microsoft Office Suite (which includes Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) FREE to download to their personal computer, tablet or mobile device!

Here's how:

Go to portal.office.com
Log in with your district e-mail and password

Your student district email account is firstname.lastname@students.puyallupsd.org

Your default student district password is:
First Initial + Last Initial + Birth Month + Birth Day
Install Office 2016 to complete installation to your personal device. A district issued device will have the Office Suite already installed.

Internet Safety

Student safety is our first concern. All Puyallup School District computers automatically connect to our internet filters both on and off campus, no matter where they are in the world.

Internet filters are very helpful in blocking dangerous websites, preventing malware downloads and blocking sites that have been identified as inappropriate for student use by the Puyallup School District.

The Puyallup School District will never share student information with outside vendors unless they have signed a confidentiality agreement.

It’s All About the Learning

Our Student Learning Department is developing content and information using Schoology. Over the next five years, we are transitioning from traditional textbooks to digital learning. Many courses such as Civics, Current World Problems, 7^th and 8^th grade science, are already accessed using Schoology.

Rich digital content is a powerful way of providing today’s students with high quality, relevant and up-to-date instructional materials.

Common features of digital content include:

Multimedia elements such as still images and graphics, video, virtual reality, animations, simulations, audio, music, interactive, and gaming elements;
Embedded tools (survey, calculator, spreadsheet, etc.) to facilitate student highlighting, annotating calculations and more;
Additional tools (wikis, video/graphics editors, academic networking tools) to support collaboration and creation.
A variety of languages.
Adaptive and assistive technology designed to meet special needs;
The ability to be updated and enriched continuously and seamlessly.

Need to Know

Digital core curriculum is reviewed and recommended by district teams and approved by the school board.

Who has computers?

Students in grades 4th through 12th grades will have 1:1, take-home computers. They can check out their computer at orientation in late August, or in the library during the first couple weeks of school. They will need a completed Puyallup Protection Plan (either accepting or opting out of the plan) in order to check out their device.

Students in grades Kindergarten through 3rd grade will have access to a cart of computers in their classroom. This model provides students with the appropriate access to technology given their developmental needs along with their ability to manage their use responsibly.

Do students need computers?

In order to prepare students to be successful after high school, we need to give them a chance to develop their technology skills. Students need to be able to create, communicate and collaborate electronically to be college and career ready.

Why are we changing from textbooks to reading and learning on a computer?

It is a better use of our community's tax dollars to build digital courses we own, rather than purchase expensive materials from a limited number of publishers.
The selection of traditional materials which fit our community is limited. Digital materials are cost effective and easily updated to meet the needs of our students in Puyallup.
21st Century Skills in technology is critical for graduates moving into the job market, training and college.
