Zeiger Elementary's ECEAP Outdoor Learning Space Gets a Fun-Filled Makeover

Zeiger Elementary's ECEAP Outdoor Learning Space Gets a Fun-Filled Makeover

We are excited to partner with Pierce County to enhance the outdoor learning space for our youngest Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP) learners at Zeiger Elementary. Crews are installing engineered wood fiber play chips onsite and adding a large sandbox within the small, fenced area adjacent to their portable classrooms. These upgrades will provide a safe and engaging play area for the students, replacing the existing conditions of grass, rocks, and asphalt. Pierce County fully funded the project and managed by our Capital Projects team. Outdoor play is a powerhouse, sparking creativity, boosting physical development, and making learning an adventure for our students.

What is ECEAP?

ECEAP stands for the Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program. ECEAP is a state-funded program for children from low-income families who are age three or four by August 31.  Children qualify for this program based on their family income.  The program is coordinated and staffed through the Pierce County Human Services Department.

Puyallup School District provides school space to ensure services for children in our district who qualify.

Services provided to students who qualify for ECEAP include half-day classroom instruction three days a week, one or two meals daily, and periodic health screening.  Additionally, staff works with families to share information, strategies, activities, and resources for the child.

For information about ECEAP and registration procedures, call Pierce County Human Services at (253) 798-4400 (option #4).
