Zeiger Elementary Playground Upgrade Scheduled for This Summer

Zeiger Elementary Playground replacement

Zeiger Elementary will receive a full playground renovation this summer, focused on improving safety, accessibility, and year-round usability for students. The project is funded through the 2024 voter-approved Capital Levy and is part of ongoing facility improvements across the district.

Walking Path Now Complete

Families may have already noticed a recent improvement. The new paved walking path around the field has been completed ahead of schedule and is open for use.

Zeiger Walking Path

The path:

  • Improves access and outdoor play around the field area
  • Supports safer, more reliable movement during wet winter months
  • Provides a stable, accessible surface for students and staff

The goal is practical and straightforward: reduce muddy conditions, improve mobility, and provide consistent access throughout the school year.

Why the Playground Is Being Replaced

The existing playground has reached the end of its service life due to age and ongoing drainage issues. The current woodchip groundcover can also limit accessibility for students and adults with mobility challenges.

The summer project will include:

  • Replacement of the existing play structure
  • Installation of synthetic turf-style play fall surfacing beneath the structure
  • Drainage improvements to eliminate ponding and standing water
  • Seal coating and restriping of the hard play surface

These updates are designed to improve safety, durability, and accessibility while extending the life of the outdoor facilities.

Supporting Long-Term Facility Stewardship

The Zeiger Elementary playground project reflects the intent of the 2024 Capital Levy: maintaining and upgrading existing facilities to ensure safe, functional, and inclusive learning environments for all students.

The Zeiger outdoor levy project reflects the purpose of the 2024 Capital Levy: proactive reinvestment in school facilities. Thank you to our voters and school communities for your continued support of capital improvements that maintain safe, accessible, spaces to learn, play and grow.
