In the aftermath of recent freezing temperatures, Zeiger and Shaw Road Elementary schools manage unexpected challenges due to malfunctions in their sprinkler systems. Shaw Road Elementary's sprinkler system's branch line separated from the press lock fitting on the wet sprinkler system, which flooded two classrooms with water that flowed across the floor. In contrast, at Zeiger Elementary, the dry and wet sprinkler line burst, causing damage to the school entrance and three classrooms. Zeiger Elementary also had a domestic water line break beneath a portable restroom, causing water damage to the boy's restroom. Thankfully, the extent of water damage at both schools was minimal compared to another affected school, Woodland. Immediate action was taken by district maintenance and operations staff to extract water alongside Streamline Construction, who assisted with flood cuts and will be coordinating the repair efforts to address the issues at both schools, which are underway.
These incidents have undoubtedly caused inconveniences for the school community, affecting facilities, students, and families. We are grateful for the patience extended to our teams by the school communities as we work diligently towards resolving these issues promptly. We remain committed to providing everyone with a safe learning environment.

A flood cut is a construction term referring to a specific type of repair or modification made to a building in response to water damage, particularly from flooding. When a building experiences flooding, it can lead to extensive water damage to the walls. A flood cut involves removing and replacing a section of drywall or other building materials above the waterline to address the damage caused by flooding.
A flood cut prevents further issues such as mold growth and structural damage. Cutting out and replacing the affected part of the wall helps ensure the building can be properly dried and restored. Removing a portion of the wall helps to ensure that the building can be properly dried and restored. This process is often part of water damage restoration efforts to mitigate the impact of flooding on the structure.
