Wildwood Elementary Receives Kitchen Upgrades Funded by Capital Levy

Wildwood kitchen floor photos

Funded by the 2024 voter-approved Capital Levy, Wildwood Elementary, is receiving upgrades to its kitchen flooring and grease management system. These improvements will enhance safety, sanitation, and long-term reliability in key service areas of the school.

Work is now underway to remove the kitchen equipment and existing flooring and install a new epoxy flooring system designed for high-use commercial kitchen environments. Epoxy flooring provides a durable, seamless surface that is easier to clean, resists wear and moisture and helps reduce slip hazards in busy work areas.

The project also includes replacing the grease trap, which is essential in a commercial kitchen. Grease traps capture fats, oils, and solid food waste before they enter the plumbing system. This helps prevent pipe blockages, backups, odors, and potential damage to the building. By managing waste at the source, grease traps support reliable kitchen operations and help maintain the plumbing system over time.

Together, these improvements will support a safer and more efficient kitchen environment for nutrition services staff who prepare daily meals for students. The updated flooring will also make routine cleaning more effective and help maintain consistent health and sanitation standards.

Thank you to our voters and school community for supporting these important capital improvements. To learn more about projects funded by the 2024 Capital Levy, visit www.puyallupsd.org/levy
