Where We're Growing: Wolf Point Brings 56 New Homes to Region 3

The North Hill community is poised for continued growth with the approval of Wolf Point, a 56-lot single-family residential development located near Meridian Ave. E (SR 161). This project sits within the attendance boundaries of Northwood Elementary, Edgemont Junior High, and Puyallup High School

Spanning 44 acres, the Wolf Point development will introduce new infrastructure, including private roads, stormwater systems, shared access points, and a mix of community and individual on-site septic systems. While these elements support the physical needs of the neighborhood, their broader impacts reach our schools. Like all new developments, Wolf Point is being closely tracked by the district to assess potential enrollment increases and strain on existing school capacity.

Region 3 already faces pressure. Northwood and Mt. View Elementary, the only K-5 schools in the area, are both operating above permanent capacity and rely on portable classrooms to house additional students. Projections indicate continued over-enrollment as residential growth continues. These trends emphasize the need for thoughtful, long-term planning to maintain safe, equitable, and future-ready learning environments.

To stay ahead of growth, the district relies on a range of tools, including enrollment forecasting, boundary analysis, and strategic capital investments. Among these is the proposed replacement of Mt. View Elementary, designed to expand capacity and improve outdated facilities. At the secondary level, Puyallup High School and Edgemont Junior High—both foundational to the community, are under similar strain, serving larger, more diverse student populations in aging buildings.

Although voters approved the 2025 bond measures in both the February and April elections, the measures did not validate due to state-required voter turnout thresholds. In response, the district remains focused on short- and long-term strategies. The School Capacity and Utilization Task Force (SCUT) has recommended delaying the proposed relocation of the Quest program from Northwood to Mt. View to preserve capacity where it's most needed.

Projects like Wolf Point are more than just new homes, they’re a signal of where and how our community is changing. The Puyallup School District will continue to engage with families and local partners to ensure that schools are prepared to meet future needs.
