Understanding the Impact of State Match Dollars for School Construction

Did you know that many school districts in Washington receive additional support from the state to improve their facilities? Here's a breakdown of how it works:

The state determines the appropriate space allocation for students at different school levels, whether elementary, middle, or high school. Based on current construction costs, it distributes funds accordingly.

This assistance isn't limited to constructing new buildings but also refurbishing existing ones. However, it's important to note that the state doesn't cover the entire expense. They contribute a portion, leaving the school district and the local community responsible for sourcing the remaining funds, often through measures like bonds.

Thanks to the 2015 bond measure approved by the voters, aging neighborhood schools throughout our district were replaced or renovated.

The careful management of PSD funds ensured the timely completion of all projects approved in 2015 while remaining under budget. Remarkably, these savings allowed us to utilize state-match funds to fund additional junior high projects and the development of the Kessler Center.

Thank you, voters. Our projects are designed to create a safe, challenging, and supportive learning environment for students. Your support ensures our district full access to state resources to help our schools evolve to meet the growing needs of our students and PSD community.
