Summer Prep Underway: Behind the Scenes to Ready Schools for September

Puyallup School District’s dedicated operations, grounds, and custodial teams

While students enjoy a well-earned summer break, Puyallup School District’s dedicated operations, grounds, and custodial teams are hard at work preparing schools for the first day back on September 3, 2025. Across the district, crews are painting classrooms, repairing fixtures, patching walls, pressure washing walkways, planting fresh landscaping, waxing floors, and deep cleaning every corner. These efforts ensure our schools are clean, safe, and ready to welcome students and staff this fall.

Maintaining the quality and integrity of our facilities is a responsibility we take seriously. With hundreds of students and staff using our buildings five days a week, wear and tear is constant. Our service teams play a vital role in keeping each school a high-quality learning environment that supports student achievement.

This work is managed by the district’s Operations Department, which oversees a comprehensive building maintenance program designed to protect the public’s investment in school facilities. These efforts not only support the long-term function and safety of our buildings, but they also help maintain eligibility for future state assistance on major capital projects. This includes new schools and large-scale renovations when voters approve bond funding.

Summer may appear quiet from the outside, but behind the scenes, it is one of the busiest times of the year. Our staff is working diligently across every campus to ensure that classrooms, hallways, gyms, and playgrounds are in top condition and ready for learning on day one.

To our hardworking teams, thank you. Your skill, dedication, and pride in your work make a difference every single day.

And to our community, thank you for your continued trust and partnership as we care for these vital public assets.
