Small Projects with Big Impact: Puyallup High School Tennis Courts Resurfacing

Game, set, refresh! Students and community members who use the tennis courts at Puyallup High School will soon see improvements designed to support safer play and extend the life of the facility. 

The existing court surfacing had become sun faded, cracked, and worn over time. Work began May 26 to maintain safe playing conditions and preserve the courts for student athletes and physical education programs. 

Regular resurfacing helps create smoother, more consistent playing conditions for students. Cracks and worn surfaces can create tripping hazards, uneven ball bounces, and drainage issues that affect both safety and playability. 

By restoring the court's surface, students participating in tennis programs, physical education classes, and extracurricular activities will benefit from improved traction, visibility, and overall court performance. 

Addressing issues early allows the district to maintain safe, usable spaces for students while protecting long-term community investments. 

Thoughtful Stewardship of Voter-Approved Capital Funds 

This project was funded through the voter-approved 2024 Capital Levy. 

In Washington state, voter-approved funding is allocated to specific categories. Funding intended for instructional programs and learning materials are separate from funds used for construction projects and major building repairs. As such, facility improvements such as court resurfacing, roof repairs, safety upgrades, and building maintenance are funded through voter-approved capital levies and bonds.
