Small Projects, Big Impact: New Pathway Improves Daily Life at Emerald Ridge High School

Sometimes the smallest improvements make one of the biggest differences. 

At Emerald Ridge High School (ERHS), students and staff had already identified the most efficient route between the main building and portable classrooms. The only problem? It wasn’t an official path. 

Over time, regular foot traffic turned the grass and dirt into a well-worn shortcut that often became muddy during wet weather, tracking dirt into classrooms, and creating extra cleanup for custodial teams. 

Thanks to 2024 Capital Levy site improvement funding, that path is now becoming a permanent solution. 

With support from Looker Asphalt, crews paved a new 6-foot by 45-foot sidewalk connecting the main building to the portables, creating a safer, cleaner and more accessible route for students and staff. 

While small in scale, projects like this improve the day-to-day experience for schools in meaningful ways, reducing maintenance needs, protecting indoor spaces and helping students move comfortably across campus year-round.
