Sliding into Summer with Improvements at Zieger Elementary

Capital Improvements begin at Zeiger Elementary Playground

Big changes are coming to Zeiger Elementary’s playground this summer. Thanks to voter support of the 2024 Capital Levy, the school’s playground will receive a comprehensive renovation designed to improve safety, accessibility, and year-round usability for students.

The existing playground has reached the end of its service life due to age and ongoing drainage challenges. In addition, the current woodchip surfacing can create barriers for students and visitors with mobility needs.

While much of the equipment could not be preserved, several components remain suitable for reuse. Operations staff were on site salvaging bolts, screws, and newer hardware that will support ongoing maintenance and care of playground equipment at other schools.

This summer’s improvements will include:

  • Replacement of the existing play structure
  • Installation of synthetic turf-style safety surfacing beneath the playground equipment
  • Drainage improvements to eliminate standing water and improve site conditions
  • Seal coating and restriping of the hard play surface

Together, these upgrades will create a safer, more accessible, and more durable outdoor environment while extending the life of the school’s recreational facilities.

Investing in Safe and Accessible Spaces

The Zeiger Elementary playground project reflects the purpose of the 2024 Capital Levy: maintaining and improving existing school facilities to support safe, functional, and inclusive learning environments for all students.

Thank you to our voters and school community for supporting capital improvements that help students learn, play, and grow in well-maintained spaces.

Safety Reminder: The playground remains closed during construction this summer. We appreciate the community’s patience as crews complete these improvements and prepare the new play space for students to enjoy.
