Rogers High School HVAC Project Powers Toward Clean Energy Compliance

HVAC control upgrades at Rogers High School

Rogers High School is receiving major mechanical upgrades, thanks to funding from the 2024 Capital Levy. This multi-year project includes the replacement of aging HVAC systems—fan coil units, chillers, and air handlers—and a vital upgrade to the building control system, moving from the outdated IBEX platform to Johnson Controls' advanced Metasys system.

The shift from IBEX, which is no longer supported and difficult to maintain, to Metasys offers greater energy efficiency, remote monitoring, and seamless integration across building systems. These upgrades will optimize indoor comfort while improving energy performance districtwide.

This isn't just maintenance—it’s mandatory. Rogers High School, like all large non-residential buildings in Washington, must meet the Clean Buildings Performance Standard. Flagged in 2024 at 32.9 points above the state’s Energy Use Intensity (EUI) target, Rogers faces a compliance deadline of June 2027.

The RHS project is part of several energy upgrades underway across Puyallup School District.  PSD is taking decisive steps now to meet future requirements, reduce long-term costs, and support a more sustainable future for students and the broader community.
