Puyallup School District Recognized for Sustainability Leadership

Puyallup School District has received recognition from Forbo Flooring Systems for the district's steady progress in reducing environmental impact. The acknowledgment highlights several years of practical, long-term work focused on healthy learning environments and responsible stewardship of public resources

Since 2019, the district’s continued use of sustainable flooring materials has helped prevent 25,672 pounds of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere without offsetting. These choices support cleaner air for students and reduce long-term maintenance costs, strengthening both student health outcomes and the overall budget.

This recognition reflects the district’s consistent approach to facility planning. Leaders have invested in building systems and materials that stand the test of time, contribute to safe and supportive spaces, and protect the community’s financial investment. Flooring is one example of how thoughtful material selection can promote student wellbeing while ensuring taxpayers get lasting value.

“We want to protect the environment, act responsibly with public funds and make sure the materials in our schools support student health,” Executive Director of Construction, Facility Planning and Maintenance, Brady Martin said. “Every decision we make is grounded in what is best for students and what will safeguard our community’s investment for years to come.”

Forbo representatives presented the Capital Projects staff with the certificate of recognition and described Puyallup as a leader in sustainable commitment across K12 education

The district will continue evaluating facility needs and material options as part of its ongoing responsibility to maintain learning environments that meet the needs of students today and in the years ahead.
