Puyallup School District Receives $245,700 Grant for Solar and Battery Storage Design Project

We are excited to announce that the Washington Department of Commerce has awarded the Puyallup School District a grant. Through the 2023 Clean Energy Fund (CEF) 5 Grid Modernization Grant Program, the district has secured $245,700 to design a solar plus battery storage solution and to help us enhance energy resilience in our community.

The CEF 5 Grid Modernization grant, totaling $8.11 million statewide, is a part of the ongoing efforts to modernize Washington's electrical grid and pave the way for a cleaner, more sustainable future in our state. Grant funds will support various projects across Washington, including Puyallup School District's work to design a solar plus battery storage microgrid for Northwood Elementary School in Edgewood.

Northwood Elementary School often faces power outages during the fall and winter. With this grant, the school will implement a resilient energy solution to ensure continuous operations for the building during emergencies, benefiting both students and the broader community.

The Washington Department of Commerce received numerous proposals for innovative clean energy projects, reflecting the critical role of energy in our communities. Notably, a sizable portion of the grants went to first-time applicants, including organizations like Puyallup School District, encouraging broader participation in clean energy initiatives.

These grant award will help us design a solar strategy for Northwood and signifies a significant step forward in Puyallup School District's efforts to meet our Clean Energy requirements as part of our PowerED initiative and build towards a sustainable energy future.

We are grateful for the support from Commerce and the Clean Energy Fund. We are excited to contribute to a cleaner, more resilient energy landscape for our community and beyond as we move forward.
