There was a lot of excitement and activity at Rogers Pool last week, which is all for a good reason! The plaster used in our pools plays a vital role in maintaining water quality. It not only adds to the overall look of the pool, but it also helps keep the pool clean, safe and ensures that it operates effectively and efficiently. While doubling as a protective barrier for the pool's foundational structure, it can quickly become a breeding ground for bacteria and algae if the plaster becomes compromised or worn. Any cracks or erosion within the plaster can result in water leakage, putting vital components at risk, such as the rebar and concrete that form the pool's structural foundation. Also, plaster, in good condition, helps our lifeguard staff quickly identify swimmers in distress. Aged, yellowed plaster makes the water look murky and difficult to see the bottom. Proactively addressing these plaster concerns is crucial in safeguarding the pool's integrity and preventing more extensive and pricier harm. With increased wear and tear on these facilities from growing student enrollment and increased community use, maintaining our pools is an important factor in our budget decision-making. Balancing building maintenance and prudent fiscal management is crucial, and we are dedicated to prioritizing these values in our decision-making process.
