Capital Projects and Operations presented an award at Lumen Field

PSD Named 2025 Zero+ Champion of Sustainability; Honored at Lumen Field

Puyallup School District was recently recognized at a Seattle Seahawks game as a Zero+ Champion of Sustainability, an award presented by McKinstry and Lumen Field to organizations demonstrating meaningful progress in environmental stewardship. The district is upgrading 34 schools to meet state energy standards and is reducing utility costs by more than $163,000 each year through improved heating and ventilation scheduling, lighting upgrades, and building performance adjustments completed in partnership with McKinstry and Puget Sound Energy and Tacoma Power. This work lowers emissions, supports healthier learning environments, and reflects the district’s ongoing commitment to responsible and efficient facility operations.

School Capacity and Utilization Task Force Advances Feasibility Study on Spinning and Waller Road Elementary

The School Capacity and Utilization Task Force (SCUT) is continuing its careful study of facility needs across the district, focusing this fall on Waller Road Elementary and Spinning Elementary. Both schools have aging buildings and limited capacity that affect daily learning environments and long-term planning. SCUT is reviewing data on enrollment trends, building conditions, program needs, and possible temporary housing options for students if facility changes become necessary in the future. The task force is not being asked to decide whether a school closes. Its role is to study the facts, explore potential scenarios, and help the School Board understand the impacts of different options. The district remains committed to safe, supportive, and equitable learning environments for all students while planning responsibly for the future.

Parking lot paving at Fruitland Elementary

Fruitland Elementary Traffic and Safety Improvements Near the Finish Line

Crews are nearing the finish line on the Fruitland Elementary Traffic Improvement Project, a major investment designed to make travel to and from school safer and more efficient for students, families, and staff.

Funded by the 2024 Capital Levy, this project expands on-site parking, created separate bus and parent traffic areas, and added longer lanes for pickup and drop-off to help move cars out of the public right-of-way.

Together, these upgrades will ease congestion and improve safety for everyone using the campus and surrounding neighborhood.

Solar Panels

PSD Applies for Grant to Bring Solar Power to Northwood Elementary

Northwood Elementary on North Hill could soon be powered in part by clean, renewable solar energy. The Puyallup School District has applied for a state grant to install solar on the school roof, which would lower electricity costs, support cleaner air, and provide hands-on learning opportunities for students.

This project also aligns with our district's commitment to maintaining safe, efficient, and future-ready school facilities.
