New Septic Pumps Mean a Smoother Start for Woodland Elementary

Capital Projects replaced two hardworking septic lift station pumps

Woodland Elementary is starting the school year with an important behind-the-scenes upgrade: brand-new septic lift station pumps, funded by the 2024 voter-approved capital levy.  While they are not something students will ever see, these pumps play a big role in keeping the school running smoothly every day

The old pumps had been working hard for 25 years and were ready for retirement.

One pump even had to be rebuilt earlier this year just to keep things flowing until both could be replaced. The project also included new safety features like a ladder, floats, control panel, and screen inside the pump pit, plus a review to make sure everything fits and works together perfectly.

If you are wondering why this matters, think of septic pumps as the school’s hidden plumbing helpers. They quietly move wastewater from the building out to the septic system. Without them, bathrooms and sinks could back up, which could mean school closures and big headaches for everyone.

The district started planning last fall with inspections and permits, then kicked off construction on July 28. The work will be wrapped up before students return, so classes can start on time with no interruptions. New fencing around the pump area will also be in place by August 21 to keep the space safe and secure.

These upgrades will keep the school’s systems flowing for years to come, so teachers, kids, and parents at Woodland Elementary can focus on learning, not plumbing problems.
