New Filtered Bottle Filling Stations Coming to Rogers and Puyallup High Schools with Capital Levy Support

Puyallup High School and Rogers High School received upgraded filtered water bottle filling stations

The Puyallup School District is committed to providing safe, high-quality drinking water for students and staff. This summer, Puyallup High School and Rogers High School received upgraded filtered water bottle filling stations as part of that ongoing effort.

Routine water testing is a key part of our proactive approach to student safety. Lead can sometimes be present in older plumbing materials, including pipes, faucets, and fixtures. PSD tests all student-accessible faucets in accordance with state requirements. When results show lead levels above 15 parts per billion, the district takes immediate action, consulting with the Washington State Department of Health and the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department to ensure compliance and safety.

While the district can make repairs within our school buildings, the plumbing infrastructure in older schools, along with the municipal water system, can sometimes contribute to water quality challenges. This was one reason the 2024 Bond Advisory Committee recommended bond improvements for six of our schools, including Mountain View, Spinning, and Waller Road Elementary, and Puyallup and Rogers High Schools. These improvements focus on whole-building upgrades that reduce the need for frequent repairs and support the long-term health and safety of students.

These water upgrades are funded through the 2024 Capital Levy. At both Puyallup High School and Rogers High School, existing bubblers and drinking fountains were replaced with new filtered bottle fill stations, using high-quality materials and installation to ensure long-term durability.

By capping older bubblers and installing these new filtered stations, the district reduces potential lead exposure and encourages students and staff to stay hydrated with safe, accessible drinking water.

PSD remains dedicated to the health and well-being of all students. These improvements demonstrate our commitment to proactive facility maintenance, regulatory compliance, and continuously improving the learning environment across our schools.
