New Bottle Filling Stations Installed at Six Schools

New water bottle filling stations replace bubbler fountains

Capital Projects has installed water bottle filling stations at Spinning Elementary, Maplewood Elementary, Meeker Elementary, Edgerton Elementary, Glacier View Junior High, and Emerald Ridge High School (ERHS). These upgrades ensure the district meets the state’s recommended guideline of one bottle-filling station for every 100 students.

In addition to replacing traditional drinking fountains, some stations have been strategically installed in new locations to improve accessibility for all students and staff. The school removed older bubbler-style fountains in classrooms to enhance safety and usability.

Why Bottle Filling Stations?

  • Healthier Hydration: Safer drinking water mitigates concerns about lead in older plumbing systems.
  • Sustainability: Convenient refilling encourages reusable water bottle use, reducing single-use plastic waste.
  • Accessibility: Strategically placed stations to ensure easier access across campus.

This project is a testament to the district’s commitment to student health and safety while advancing sustainability goals. Thank you for making these improvements possible.

On February 11, 2025, voters in the Puyallup School District will vote on Proposition 1, an $800M bond measure, that would maintain the current tax rate of $4.14 per $1,000 of assessed property value through a capital levy rollback, meaning homeowners would not face any increase in their property taxes. This would allow the district to address immediate infrastructure needs without an additional tax burden. Proposition 1 would span 21 years, prioritizing expanding high school capacity and replacing outdated elementary schools.
