New Asphalt Marks Final Step in Karshner Elementary Playground Project

Large machines removing asphalt at Karshner Elementary

The Karshner Elementary playground project is nearing completion, with crews preparing the final hard surface ahead of the first day of school on September 3.

Today, Looker Asphalt, Inc., a locally owned company, was on site removing the old asphalt. Next week, crews will lay new asphalt and stripe the play area, creating a safe, durable, and accessible surface for outdoor play, physical education, and learning activities.

The hard surface will serve all students, including those using mobility devices, ensuring every child has access to recess and schoolwide activities. Playground equipment is already installed, including the highly anticipated zipline, and bilingual signage in English and Spanish to welcome every student and family.

These improvements are more than upgrades. They represent a strategic investment in student wellness, inclusion, and daily school experience, made possible by the support of local voters through the 2024 Capital Levy.
