Solar energy presentation at Northwood Elementary fourth grade classroom

Northwood Students Learn How Solar Energy Can Power Schools and Futures

Fourth grade students at Northwood Elementary recently explored renewable energy during a classroom presentation led by Saul Contreras from McKinstry, our PowerED Energy Management partners. Saul shared with students  how a proposed solar panel system at Northwood could generate clean energy, reduce utility costs, and support both the school and the broader community.

The experience gave students a hands-on look at science, sustainability, and real-world problem solving, while reinforcing how energy savings can directly support classrooms and student learning.

Ridgecrest Playground Removal

Ridgecrest Elementary Playground Transformation Underway

Ridgecrest Elementary Playground Update: This summer, Ridgecrest Elementary will receive a full playground transformation focused on safety, accessibility, and inclusion, made possible by the voter-approved 2024 Capital Levy.

Over spring break, our crews began paving a new walking path to improve outdoor access for students of all abilities and reduce muddy conditions during rainy months. The existing playground in the far corner of the property was removed to prepare a new, modern play space designed to support inclusive play and connection.

Puyallup High School Road Closure

PHS Street Closure Pilot Heads to City Council

Student safety at Puyallup High School will be the focus of an upcoming Puyallup City Council presentation on April 28 at 6:30 p.m.

The district will share information about the 7th Street NW closure pilot, created to reduce safety risks for students who cross the street daily between the main campus and portable classrooms. Hundreds of students move between buildings during passing periods, before school, and after school. The pilot helps reduce vehicle traffic through the middle of campus and limits vehicle and pedestrian conflicts.

The closure is part of a multi-year effort that includes traffic studies, community meetings, and ongoing coordination with the city.

City Council Meeting Details

PHS students and families are welcome to attend, watch online, or submit comments.
