Keeping Kalles Comfortable for Learning: Chiller Replacement Project Complete

A major heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) improvement is now complete at Kalles Junior High School

A major heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) improvement is now complete at Kalles Junior High School as part of the 2024 voter-approved Capital Levy

This summer, crews replaced two aging chillers with a new, modern HVAC chiller designed to serve the entire school building.

A chiller is a large piece of equipment that cools water, which is then circulated throughout a building to help regulate indoor temperatures. During warmer months, chillers play an important role in maintaining comfortable classroom environments for students and staff.

The previous chiller system at Kalles had reached the end of its useful life. One of the two units was no longer operational, and parts from that unit had been used to keep the remaining unit running. Replacing the aging equipment improves system reliability and reduces the risk of unexpected failures that could disrupt school operations.

In addition to the chiller replacement, the building’s HVAC controls are being fully converted to a control system. Existing thermostats have been removed, and crews are installing new wiring and devices throughout the building. This upgrade will provide more consistent temperature control, improve system monitoring, and support more efficient operation of the HVAC system over time.

Maintaining comfortable indoor temperatures supports a positive learning environment where students can focus on instruction, participate in classroom activities, and stay engaged throughout the school day.

This project is one of many facility improvements funded through the 2024 Capital Levy. These investments help preserve school buildings and support safe, functional learning spaces for students.
