Fruitland Elementary Stormwater Improvements Underway

Summer construction at Fruitland Elementary is underway on a project to improve stormwater management in the school’s central courtyard and enhance safety for students and staff. 

The campus is designed in a U shape, with classrooms surrounding a grassy courtyard. This space is used daily for outdoor learning, rest, and play. During the winter, heavy rainfall causes water from the building roofs to collect in the courtyard, creating puddles. These conditions can make it difficult to travel between the building and the playground. 

To address this, crews are installing improvements to the stormwater drainage system. 

Current work includes: 

• Digging trenches around the grassy area 
• Installing new drainpipes to better capture and move stormwater 

Once completed, these improvements will: 

• Help keep walkways consistently dry 
• Reduce safety concerns during wet weather 
• Protect the building and surrounding infrastructure from water-related damage 

This project is funded by the 2024 voter-approved Capital Levy, which supports critical maintenance and improvement projects across the district.
