Fruitland Elementary Opens New, Capital Levy Funded, Onsite Pick-Up and Drop-Off

Fruitland traffic improvements, phase 3 opens for drop-off

Yesterday marked an important milestone at Fruitland Elementary as families used the school’s new onsite pick-up and drop-off loop for the first time. The opening reflects a successful investment in student safety made possible by community support of the voter-approved 2024 Capital Levy

Fruitland Elementary’s main entrance is located on a curved section of Fruitland Avenue. For years, this created congestion and safety concerns during peak arrival and dismissal times for students, families, staff, and nearby residents. Thanks to capital levy funding, traffic improvements are now largely complete and open for daily use, with final landscaping still underway.

These upgrades are designed to create a safer, more efficient traffic flow during busy school hours. The improved layout reduces congestion, improves visibility, and allows vehicles to move more smoothly through the area. The changes also benefit neighborhood residents and emergency responders, while reducing vehicle idling and supporting a healthier environment.

The district’s Capital Projects team will continue working closely with the City of Puyallup to monitor traffic patterns and adjust as needed to further reduce risk and improve operations.

The district extends its appreciation to Fruitland staff, students, and families for their patience and cooperation during construction.

Parking Reminders

  • No parking in the fire lane
  • No parking near the gym. This area is reserved for buses only

Safety Notes

  • A crossing guard is stationed at the end of the outer lane serving grades K through 2
  • Please pull forward as far as possible before students exit vehicles
  • No student pick-up or drop-off in areas marked “pull forward only”

These improvements reflect the district’s commitment to responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars and providing safe, functional learning environments. Thank you to our community and voters for making these safety-focused upgrades possible through the 2024 Capital Levy.
