Ferrucci Junior High Stormwater Work Update: What’s Happening and Why

Stormwater work happening at Ferrucci Junior High

You may have noticed construction crews back at Ferrucci Junior High this summer. While it may seem surprising to see work in areas that were already completed, what’s happening is a critical part of ensuring our campus infrastructure is built to last, and built right.

The current activity is related to non-conforming work identified in the stormwater system installed as part of the 2015 voter-approved bond improvements. Non-conforming work means that while the project was completed on time and on budget, the installed system did not meet the required standards during final inspection. As a result, the contractor is responsible for correcting the work, at no additional cost to the district.

What’s Being Done

Crews began replacing sections of the storm sewer pipe in June, and as of July, the work is approximately 70% complete and on schedule. Once finished, the system will meet all required specifications for function, safety, and long-term durability.

This is not new construction or a change in plans, it’s part of the 2015 bond scope, which included:

  • A new classroom building
  • Expansion of the office and commons (approximately 20,000 square feet)
  • Improved secure entry design
  • Removal of portable classrooms
  • Expanded bus loop and parking areas
  • Limited remodeling and cosmetic improvements
  • Conversion of select interior areas for updated use

Why It Matters

We understand it can be confusing to see construction return to a site that was already considered “done.” But catching and correcting non-conforming work is part of a strong accountability process. Every project funded by our voters deserves to meet the highest standards, and we’re committed to seeing that through.

We appreciate your patience as we work with contractors to make sure our schools are safe, accessible, and built to last. The investment our community made in 2015 continues to benefit students, staff, and families, and we’re here to protect that investment at every step.
