Emerald Ridge High School Completes CCTV Camera Upgrade

Emerald Ridge High School has a new set of eyes watching over campus, and they are here to help keep students and staff safe. Over the summer, the school completed a lifecycle upgrade of its closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera system, funded by the 2024 voter-approved Capital Levy.

CCTV is a video surveillance system that uses cameras placed in key areas around campus to monitor activity. Unlike broadcast television, CCTV footage is only accessible to authorized school security and administrative staff, giving them a reliable way to review incidents, deter unsafe behavior, and respond quickly when problems arise.

The upgrade replaced aging cameras with modern, high-resolution models that provide clearer images, better coverage, and improved night vision. The district has made significant strides by leaning into the use of multi-sensor (multi-lens) and fisheye cameras. These new units can replace up to four traditional cameras, allowing more than double the number of camera views across the school. This means staff can more effectively monitor high-traffic areas like entrances, hallways, and parking lots, even in low-light conditions.

Given the rising costs of electronic equipment, the Safety, Security, and Risk Management’s Critical Systems team chose to handle the installation in-house. This approach enabled the district to invest in higher-end equipment, expand system coverage, and still remain within budget.

“Up-to-date security technology is an important part of creating a safe learning environment,” said Brady Martin, Executive Director of Construction, Maintenance & Facilities Planning. “These new cameras give us better tools to protect our students, staff, and visitors every day.”

This project is one of many safety and security improvements made possible by the 2024 Capital Levy, which funds essential facility upgrades across the district. With the new CCTV system in place, Emerald Ridge High School is better equipped to prevent incidents, investigate concerns, and provide peace of mind for families and staff.
