Demolition Nears Completion at Puyallup High School’s Library-Science Building

Crews are finalizing site clearing and sorting remaining debris at PHS.

Demolition of the Library-Science Building at Puyallup High School is nearing a key milestone. Crews are finalizing site clearing and sorting remaining debris for proper disposal or reuse. This phase marks meaningful progress in preparing the campus for future improvements that support student learning, safety, and long-term growth.

Once fully cleared, the site will be ready for the construction of a modern, three-story instructional building, proposed by the 2024 Bond Advisory Committee. The committee recommended replacing the outdated structure with a facility designed to meet today’s educational standards for science, chemistry, and biology. The new building would also help relieve overcrowding, reliance on portables, and accommodate future enrollment growth.

With demolition complete and the site prepped, the district will be positioned to move forward with construction once bond funding becomes available.

The Library-Science Building, originally built in 1962 and last updated in 1988, reached the end of its usable life due to extensive systems failures. Replacing it, rather than investing in costly repairs, reflects the district’s commitment to long-term value and educational excellence.

This work is part of a broader, multi-year plan to modernize aging infrastructure at Puyallup High School and across the district.
