Critical Repairs Complete at PSD Maintenance Shop — Staff Return to the Building

Maintenance Building Roof Repairs, interior view

Over the past several months, emergency repairs have been underway at one of the most essential, and historically overlooked, facilities in our district: the PSD Maintenance Shop. Built in 1960, this aging facility reached a breaking point last year when the roof began to fail, resulting in significant water intrusion and interior damage.

Today, we’re pleased to share that this emergency work is now complete, just in time for summer, as crews begin ramping up critical building repairs while students and staff are on break.

A Full Roof Replacement—Not a Patch Job

Capital Projects crews performed a full removal of the original 60-year-old roof and installed a new built-up, insulated roof system. Where necessary, especially over the east end of the building near the grounds department, contractors replaced deteriorated sheeting. The project also included new metal flashing, fascia board, and gutters that now discharge onto splash blocks to improve drainage. The deteriorating exterior entry canopy over the southeast grounds entrance was also replaced.

Interior Repairs and Readiness

Water damage caused by roof leaks led to severe damage throughout the building. As part of the emergency repair scope, those areas have now been fully refinished. The control room, where recent electrical and systems upgrades have been completed and brought back online.

Staff to Reoccupy Building

With the roof repaired and interior conditions stabilized, staff will begin moving back into the building next week. While this marks a significant milestone, it is important to remember that these repairs are temporary measures—necessary to maintain minimum operations, not long-term solutions for the facility.

These emergency fixes have bought us time, but they haven't addressed the core building issues.

Looking Ahead

The Maintenance Shop isn’t just a building, it’s the operational core of our district, housing the very teams that maintain our schools. We’ve stabilized it. Now it’s time to plan for the future.
