Carson Elementary to Get New Siding This Summer

Carson elementary siding

After nearly two decades of exposure to the elements—from intense sun to persistent Pacific Northwest rain—the original siding at Carson Elementary is showing clear signs of failure. Cracked panels, warped boards, and gaps in the building’s exterior envelope have made replacement not just necessary, but urgent.

Thanks to the 2024 voter-approved Capital Levy, Carson Elementary will receive new exterior siding this summer. The project will include the full replacement of the existing lap siding, as well as new flashing and underlayment where needed. All surfaces will be re-caulked and repainted to seal and protect the building envelope. An envelope consultant will also be brought in to ensure the work meets the highest standards for weather resistance and long-term durability.

While this may appear to be a relatively small project, the scope of work plays a critical role in preserving the school building. Protecting the building envelope is one of the most effective ways to prevent costly water damage, energy inefficiency, and structural deterioration—issues that can escalate quickly if left unaddressed in our wet climate.

Carson Elementary opened in 2007, funded by the 2004 Bond and state matching dollars. Located on a 15-acre site in the Silver Creek Master Plan Development on South Hill, the school has served the community for nearly 20 years. Although the original siding is now out of warranty, we are taking proactive steps to extend the building's life and protect the public’s investment in our schools.

This project is a strong example of how strategic, levy-funded maintenance helps us avoid larger, more expensive repairs in the future—and continues to support safe, welcoming, and high-quality learning environments for our students.
