Carson Elementary students, families and staff gathered last week to celebrate the completion of a new playground and walking path with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Funded through the voter-approved 2024 Capital Levy, the project improves safety, accessibility and outdoor recreation opportunities for students while creating a more inclusive space for the Carson school community.

The new playground replaces a structure that was originally installed as part of the 2004 bond and state match project. Designed with accessibility and student engagement in mind, the updated play area includes multiple climbing structures and slides, and balance features, with overhead bars and spaces for students to sit and socialize.

Several new features have quickly become student favorites, including a multi-person seesaw and a spinning wheel that encourages collaborative play.

The playground also includes a synthetic fall surface designed to provide a softer landing area during unexpected falls and improved accessibly for students of all abilities. The updated layout offers increased visibility across the playground, helping recess staff more easily supervise students during outdoor play.

In addition to the playground renovation, a new paved walking path around the field was completed and opened for student use last spring. The path supports year-round use and helps reduce muddy conditions during the wet winter months.

The Carson project reflects the purpose of the 2024 Capital Levy: maintaining and updating school facilities to support safe, accessible learning environments for students.

The district extends its appreciation to voters whose support of the 2024 Capital Levy made these improvements possible. The new playground and walking path will serve Carson students and families for years to come, providing welcoming spaces to learn, play and connect.
