Capital Levy Project Improves Shaw Road Elementary Kitchen

Shaw Road Kitchen floor before updates

We’re cooking up some important improvements at Shaw Road Elementary this summer! This summer the Capital Projects team will replace the kitchen flooring and repair the grease trap in the Shaw Road kitchen, both of which have reached the end of their service life.

To complete the work, all kitchen equipment will be temporarily removed and reinstalled after construction is finished. The existing flooring, which has experienced significant wear over time, will be replaced with a durable epoxy flooring system designed to withstand the daily demand of a busy school kitchen. The aging grease trap will also be replaced to ensure reliable operation and support long-term maintenance needs.

While these improvements may happen behind the scenes, they play an important role in supporting students at Shaw Road. Safe, functional, and efficient kitchen facilities help our nutrition services staff prepare and serve thousands of healthy meals each year. Upgrading aging infrastructure reduces the risk of equipment failures, improves sanitation, and helps ensure students continue to have access to reliable meal service in a clean, well-maintained environment.

Projects like this are part of the district’s ongoing commitment to maintaining our schools and investing in systems that support student learning, health, and well-being. Construction is scheduled during the summer break to minimize disruption and ensure the kitchen is ready to welcome students back this fall.

Follow along this summer to watch the progress.
