Capital Levy at Work: Karshner Playground Almost Complete with New Zipline and More

Crews working on installation of Karshner Elementary's new Playground.

Exciting things are happening at Karshner Elementary as the school’s playground project nears completion, thanks to voter support for the 2024 Capital Levy. What was once an aging, worn-out space is transforming into a modern, inclusive area designed for safe, active play and community use.

The new playground equipment is fully installed, including a standout feature students will be buzzing about—a zipline! (Yes, it’s been tested, and yes, it’s super fun.) Crews have leveled and prepped the area for the installation of new ADA-compliant fall protection material, which will provide a safe, accessible surface for all students, including those who use wheelchairs or mobility devices.

One thoughtful detail: Playground signage is bilingual, with English on one side and Spanish on the other, supporting Karshner’s dual language learners and making all students and families feel welcome.

This project is more than just new equipment. A brand-new five-foot-wide paved walking track to replace the old red cinder path, which will reduce muddy feet and make the track usable year-round for recess, physical education, and neighborhood families.

While these upgrades may look routine from the outside, they represent a strategic investment in student wellness, inclusion, and daily experience.

We can’t wait to welcome students and families to Karshner’s new playground when school starts back September 3rd.
