Ballou Junior High Track and Storage Upgrades Planned for Summer

Shed storage and track update at Ballou Jr. High

Ballou Junior High is preparing for important upgrades to its track and athletic storage, made possible by the 2024 voter-approved Capital Levy

The current red cinder track will be replaced with a new all-weather surface designed to better support student athletics and physical education. The existing track is undersized, with six lanes measured in yards. The new design will provide a modern, meter-measured track. After reviewing layout options, the project team selected a configuration that best fits the site’s existing slope and supports long-term performance and safety.

Planning for the project is underway. The design team is completing permit drawings and reviewing stormwater requirements, with plans to begin bidding this spring. Construction is expected to take place this summer.

In addition to the track improvements, the project includes a new pre-engineered metal athletic storage shed. The current woodsheds have experienced wear from weather, dry rot, and vandalism. The new structure will provide more durable and secure storage that meets junior high standards.

Together, these upgrades will enhance outdoor athletic spaces and better support student activities at Ballou Junior High.
