Walker High School just got a small kitchen glow-up! Back in 1986, when the school was built with funds from the 1984 bond, it had just five classrooms and a multi-purpose room—so a full kitchen wasn’t a big priority. But fast forward 39 years, nine additional portables and a student body of 120—it was time for some updates!
This winter, the Capital Projects crew made minor modifications to Walker’s kitchen to accommodate hot meal service for students. Updates included adjusting an existing countertop, adding a few power receptacles, replacing a small section of flooring, and refreshing the space with light painting. These small changes make a big impact—expanding access to hot lunches and enhancing the student dining experience!
A New Walker High School? Celebrating 50 Years with a Vision for the Future
As Walker High School marks 50 years of serving students, plans for a new, modernized campus could become a reality with the 2025 bond proposal.
Many school districts, including Puyallup, qualify for state financial assistance to help build or upgrade schools. Washington State determines space needs for students and provides matching funds based on construction costs, though these funds only cover part of the total expense. The rest must be funded locally through a voter-approved bond.
The 2024 Bond Advisory Committee identified Walker High School as a priority for state matching funds if Proposition 1 passes in the April 22 Special Election.
