Boundary Review Committee (BRC) | Ferrucci and Glacier View

Why is the Boundary Review Committee Needed?

The Puyallup School District is experiencing changes in student enrollment and how that enrollment is distributed across schools. Over time, some schools can become over built capacity while others have available space. This can affect class sizes, access to programs, and the overall student experience.

The Boundary Review Committee is needed to:

  • Balance enrollment between schools so that facilities are used efficiently and students have access to appropriate learning environments
  • Plan for current and future growth, including housing development and demographic changes in the community
  • Support equitable access to educational programs and resources across schools
  • Improve transportation efficiency, healing reduce travel times and optimize bus routes
  • Provide a community-informed recommendation to the Superintendent and Board of Directors

By bringing together community members, students, and staff, the committee ensures that potential boundary adjustments are thoughtfully reviewed and reflect a range of perspectives before any decisions are made.

BRC Scope of Work

The committee is advisory to the Superintendent and the Board of Directors and will consider the following outcome: A community-based recommendation for school boundaries.

  • The committee will refer to Board Policy 3130 when evaluating proposed boundary adjustments. As a baseline, the committee will seek to provide equity, balance enrollment, maximize access to educational programs, and support an efficient transportation plan.
  • The committee will provide public comment opportunities and communication with district stakeholders.
  • The committee will present to the board the options considered (including benefits and challenges, when possible) upon providing its recommendation.
